Dr. Kathryn Wagner is the director of the Center for Genetic Muscle Disorders at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and an Associate Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Wagner grew up in North Haven, CT and went to college at nearby Yale University, graduating summa cum laude. She moved to Baltimore in 1986 to obtain her medical and doctoral degrees at Johns Hopkins. Most of her medical training was completed at Hopkins including an internship in internal medicine, residency in neurology, and fellowship in neuromuscular disease, followed by a neurogenetics fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. In 2000, Dr. Wagner joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins, and in 2009, joined the affiliated Kennedy Krieger Institute to allow her patients with muscular dystrophy to benefit from the institute's historical strengths in rehabilitation and neurogenetics. Dr. Wagner is devoted to providing the best multidisciplinary care for children and adults with muscular dystrophy. Recognizing that even the best care available is inadequate, she conducts laboratory research on muscle regeneration and clinical research on novel therapeutics in order to improve current treatment for those with Duchenne.
